It's Not About the Flypaper

The other day, I had the urge to post how excited I was about buying flypaper to my 400+ FB “friends” and the public at large. As I walked back to my apartment, I plotted out how I would announce my happy purchase, “Never been so excited about a fly trap before!” Immediately a checking voice followed, “Are you really going to post about flypaper?”

I recently saw a FB post referring to the amount of FB posts about nothing or offering anyone anything of benefit… err… something like that. I tried to find it again, but it’s lost in ocean deep cat and food pics, game scores, and out-of-date recycled articles. Anyway, I did notice someone dared to agree with a smug comment in order to obtain some sort of liberating justification of shared sentiment towards pointless posts. It made me wish I had posted about my flypaper.
Maybe the troll fails to recognize his attempt at validation is no different than anyone else’s—each of us desirous on the Internet community for a sense of just that—community—grasping for a link while floating on life’s ups and downs in the sea of technology. No matter how insignificant the waves are, we just want to know we aren't alone… isolated voices throwing out some small talk as we drift along.
But since most of you, my computerized comrades, will most likely not share physical presence with me anytime soon, or ever, you wouldn't know my home, or how, or where I actually live, or that the weather here has been a pleasant high 70’s to low 80’s all week.  And, while you can’t slide my 12’ floor-to-ceiling glass doors without screens wide open--allowing the flies in--and step out to our balcony for true connection over ginger lemonade or ice coffee, in the meantime, keep posting your virtual existence and I'll post mine, if nothing else to simply let each other know we're here.
